Kirinyaga Central NG-CDF office finally reopens months after vandalism during protests

The Kirinyaga Central National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office in Kerugoya has officially reopened, months after it was damaged during the Sabasaba Day protests on 7 July 2025.

The building, which was set on fire and vandalised, suffered extensive destruction, including the loss of office equipment and key documents. Authorities say some of the stolen documents have since been recovered during investigations.

During the reopening, officials noted that normal operations would now resume at the facility, including services such as cheque processing and the Ajira Digital community program, which had been disrupted following the incident.

Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Josphine Mwengi urged young people to avoid violent demonstrations, emphasising the need to protect community property even while expressing grievances.

The reopening now restores full access to NG-CDF services for residents of Kirinyaga Central.
